Avelo and its clinical collaborators have published an important study in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, providing new evidence supporting AveloMask for non-invasive detection of lower respiratory tract pathogens in patients with pneumonia.
The study was conducted outside Horizon and is not an output of our project. Nevertheless, Avelo’s achievement strengthens the evidence supporting mask-based collection of exhaled aerosols for molecular testing.
AveloMask detected the predominant pathogen in 85.1% of cases with a positive lower respiratory tract reference sample. These encouraging findings support its potential as a complement to conventional diagnostic methods, particularly when sputum is difficult to obtain.
Congratulations to Avelo and its collaborators on this important contribution to respiratory diagnostics!
